What is Visiting Home Care?

Visiting home care is having one of our friendly, enthusiastic and vibrant carers visit the client at their home on a 'drop in' basis. They will call in at a time of the client's choice to carry out prearranged tasks. This might be just a half an hour visit once a week or four hour long visits per day. Home care is truly flexible and enables individuals to remain independent. Continuity is very important to us so we make every effort to ensure that a few select carers will be allocated to each client giving them time to get to know each other and form a bond.

Who is home care for

Visiting home care is suitable for those who need assistance with specific parts of their daily routine or household chores, people who wish to remain independent in their own homes and do not need someone with them all the time. It is also suitable for those who have a regular carer who needs break cover and those who need companionship and support.

Sit in service

Visiting home care might also be a 'sit in service' or a 'waking' or 'sleeping night'. Sit in services are generally a large block of time between two and five hours where a carer is needed to be present in the house. This could be to allow a private/unpaid carer to take a break or attend appointments. It may also be a social visit where the client and the carer talk, laugh play games or look through old photographs together

Waking nights

Waking nights are when a carer would stay in the house overnight but would stay awake to watch over the client. This type of care is most commonly requested for terminally ill clients who do not wish to be left alone or clients who are recovering from major surgery or a severe illness.

Sleeping nights

Sleeping nights are when a carer would go and stay with the client overnight and would sleep but be listening out for the client should they need assistance. This is appropriate for those who have mobility issues and need support with continence care during the night. Also those with memory problems with a tendency to wander or attempt to leave the house late at night.
